Shaving. It’s a task that many people — men and women alike — perform regularly, often with varying degrees of frustration. The promise of smooth skin is alluring, but the reality of nicks, cuts, and razor burn can make the process feel like a chore.
If you’re tired of the daily shaving grind and want to ditch the razor forever, you might wonder if laser hair removal is right for you.
Well, good news: Laser hair removal can, indeed, help you say goodbye to shaving for good.
Take a moment as Kelly DiStefano, MD; Wendy Champey, MD; Ed Champey, MD, and the team here at Wellington Rejuvenation Center highlight all of the advantages of ditching the razor.
How laser hair removal helps you toss your razor
During laser hair removal treatments, your Wellington Rejuvenation Center provider uses concentrated beams of light (laser energy) to target and destroy hair follicles. The heat generated by the light energy damages your hair follicle, and when your follicle is damaged, hair growth is inhibited.
But don’t toss that razor just yet …
The procedure is designed to provide long-term reduction in hair growth, which, in turn, offers a more permanent solution compared with traditional methods like shaving, waxing, or plucking.
However, it’s not time to ditch your razor just yet.
Laser hair removal only works on hair during its growing phase — the anagen phase. That’s why you may need several sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. This cadence ensures that each follicle is targeted during its growing phase.
Before each laser hair removal session (and between them for that matter), you can shave. Shaving can help you stay smooth and hair-free until you’ve completed all of your sessions.
In fact, shaving is the only hair removal method that you can use between laser sessions. Plucking, waxing, and using an epilator remove the root, and if you remove the root, there’s nothing for the laser to target.
The good news is that once you start laser hair removal treatments, you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. This mindset can help power through a few more shaving sessions before you put away the razor for good.
Laser hair removal gives you back the gift of time
If you feel like it takes forever to shave, you’re not alone. You can expect to spend at least 72 days over the course of your life just shaving your legs. That’s not even accounting for other areas of your body — such as your underarms or your bikini area.
Laser hair removal can give you back time each day when you permanently remove hair from your arms, legs, upper lip, chin, chest, abdomen, back, buttocks, and bikini area.
Is laser hair removal right for you?
Laser hair removal isn’t right for everyone, which is why your consultation is so important.
Before undergoing laser hair removal, Dr. DiStefano, Dr. Wendy Champey, or Dr. Ed Champey meets with you to discuss your aesthetic goals, assess your suitability for the procedure, and explain what to expect in terms of results and maintenance.
